whether extra pounds are had or lost
whether your teeth are an abnormal shade of white or if they're a little yellow
whether you smile with dimples or without
whether you're painted with freckles or a tan
whether your hair is gorgeous or not quite what you'd hope
whether your eyes are painted or bare
whether your clothes match or not
whether you're tall or short
whether you're taken or whether you're not
whether you smile or whether you cry
whether you can sing or whether you dance- whether you can do both or whether you're good at neither
whatever you look like in that bathing suit
whatever you sound like when you laugh
whatever you spray on your skin
whatever you look like when you run
whatever you look like when you're being silly
whatever vitamins you take
whatever weights you lift
whatever shampoos you use
whatever jewelry you decorate yourself with
it's all meaningless really. i honestly believe that being truly beautiful means not needing to prove to the world that you are at all. so what if someone else's face would look better on a magazine cover. all magazines and media do is breed more conceit, more vanity, and tell you better ways to please your man. you don't need anyone to tell you how to be beautiful. we were born with every single thing we've ever needed to be beautiful and handsome. in seventeen and a half years, i have come to find that true beauty is found in truth, in being yourself, in both your laughter and your tears.
if, someday, i am ever blessed with children, they will know the absurdity of the media. if i ever have a little girl, she will know she is beautiful for reasons pertaining nothing to the color of her eyes or the clothes she wears. if i ever have a little boy, he will know the value of looking into someone's soul to find beauty there instead.
